Weekend Happenings

I’ve been invited to join a friend’s “Weekend Link-Up Party” on her blog. I have been trying to do this for a few weeks now, but have had trouble with my photo app on my IPad. So, I have decided to combine the last 3 weeks and give you an overview of the events. This is a great way to log weekend memories and share the fun with friends and family. Hope you will check out my friend’s blog: Annapolis and Company

Enjoy!

1./ Snow. One of the reasons Ricky and I were excited about moving to Baltimore was for the winter weather. Having both grown up in the North; me from MI and him from WI, we were looking forward to being re-acquainted with the white fluffy stuff. However, since we have been here we have not had much snow at all. Over the past few weekends we were excited to look out our windows to find snow falling from the sky! Big, fluffy flakes. Even though it did not stay for long, we were happy to experience a little bit of real winter.

2./ Chocolate. February is the love month, which usually means chocolate is nearby. A couple weekends ago, I hosted a jewelry party with some lady friends and had chocolate themed food in honor of Valentine’s day. I loved making these chocolate covered strawberries, along with some chocolate covered pretzels. The ladies seemed to enjoy them too!

3./ Reading. Even though Hudson is still very young, we’ve started reading to him. It is really neat to see how he sits quietly (most of the time) and looks at the pictures and listens while we read. It’s always nice having Daddy home to read to him. We have been reading through the Jesus Storybook Bible with him. Even if he isn’t understanding what is being read, it’s been good for us as parents to be reminded of these Biblical truths through the stories of the Bible. I love watching Ricky be a Dad and am so thankful for special bonding times like these.

4./ Hudson. I have yet to update my blog on the birth story of Hudson, but every weekend since he’s been born has been one spent cherishing our little boy. We are incredibly thankful for this miracle and love spending time with Hudson. He is just over 3 months old now, and is such a happy little boy. He loves “playing,” “talking,” and “singing” with mom and dad.

5./ Superbowl Sunday. So I’m not sure if anyone noticed, but the year we move to Baltimore, the Ravens become Superbowl Champions! We went over to our Pastor’s house after church Sunday night and had a little Superbowl party. A lady in our church gave Hudson a Raven’s outfit, and someone bought Ricky a Raven’s jersey just in time to wear for the big game. We are still loyal Greenbay Packer fans, but since they didn’t make it this year, we didn’t mind cheering for the Ravens.

6./ Exploring Catonsville. Since we’ve moved to Baltimore, there has been much to explore. One of the things we enjoy is all of the quaint, historical towns nearby. There is plenty to do in this area, and we love finding new favorite places to visit. We visited downtown Catonsville recently, and discovered a lovely, all organic coffee and bread shop, an unique antique store, and a bike shop. (We are hoping to get bikes soon so we can start riding together) This is a picture of me taken in front of the antique store. I definitely found some treasures in there and can’t wait to go back!

7./ Family Outing. Ricky’s sister, Eunice, recently moved here to teach at the Christian school. She knits very well and made us all some super cute, warm hats! We went exploring again, and our heads stayed very warm!

8./ Bath-time. Hudson loves his bath! It’s one of our favorite things to do with him. He is quite the wiggly guy which results in constant splashing! We’ve been putting his tub over the kitchen sink, but after nearly flooding the kitchen, I think it’s time to move his tub to the big tub!!

9./ Teen Winter Retreat. Each year we look forward to our teen winter retreat. Before we moved here, Ricky used to be the guest speaker each year for the teens. Now he is running it! This year the theme was, “You don’t know what to do!” Talking about Faith and Fear: Turning to Jesus when you don’t know what to do. Ricky had a friend who designed these shirts and the kids loved them! It was a fun time of games, fellowship, teaching of the Word, food, and more! I’m glad I was able to hang around for part of the events and Hudson loved meeting all the teens, as well. 🙂

  • Ok, seeing as how Baltimore is on our radar reading this is super exciting! It’s fun seeing how you have found so many ways to spend time together as a fam and explore the big city. And the Jesus Storybook Bibke is just the best. We read it with Ali too . . . Though I’ve been known to read it to myself . . . I like it that much 😉

  • Oh, Karlyn! I loved reading through this and all your northeastern adventures. I miss snow. I miss quant little historical towns. And organic coffee places. I am living vicariously through you, friend, so please keep posting! Oh, and great job on reading to Hudson so early! Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t important…it is SO important and you are planting early seeds in his little life. We have the Jesus Storybook Bible too and LOVE it.
